Apple now ships 6.1% of all U.S. "PCs", 4th in the industry behind Gateway (6.4%), HP (23%), and Dell (32.1%). Apple did not place in the top-5 in worldwide PC shipments, so that data was not available.
Gartner notes that the overall U.S. PC market actually experienced a 2% decline year-over-year, so that coupled with Apple's announcment of a 30% growth in Mac shipments last quarter (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/10/20061018172455.shtml) helps explain the dramatic growth.
"Two factors that contributed to the poor performance in the U.S. market were continued weakness in the professional desk-based market, and the carry-over effect from strong sales in the second quarter. If it's just Disney, then there's not much point. The reason iTMS succeeded from the start was that it was simple and it had the largest library from which you could purchase single songs.
The iTMS didn't start with the largest library or all the record labels on board.* Having Disney also means the studios it owns, like Miramax.* There will be a healthy selection of films for a first start.

The virtual scroll wheel interface would pretty much wreck the games that were just released for the 5/5.5G iPods...
...unless the game itself occupies only half the screen and the other half is just the click wheel on some sort of background, whether in portrait or landscape. I'm a little skeptical on how that kind of user experience might be though...

i've been eyeing this off for a couple of months now and by chance noticed a major price discount on a major electronic chain's website yesterday morning
jumped in the car and went straight down and they had to honour the price which was well below cost :D
best part was the dude that sold it to me rang his wife as i was leaving telling her to come in and buy one as it was cheaper than what he could get it for himself, lol, and then reported the website misprint

No, no, false alarm. It's alright. My Time Machine in OS X is able to write to an external drive of any size only because aliens from the future hacked into my Mac and rewrote the code while I was sleeping.

This is America. If the man wants a small house, let him have a small house (The blueprints are for a house smaller than mine, so I call it "small"). If he wanted to live in the back of an El Camino, that's his right also.
Personally, I like old houses and hate the look of modern homes, but that's just me. I also live in what would be considered a larger home, as I have 8 kids and need some space. But I also have a few acres, so the house isn't stuck right next to my neighbors.
However, I did not build my house to compete with or impress the neighbors. Neither did Steve.

This is a little ridiculous. Is it really a big deal to answer simple questions about firearms? Gun owners should be happy to answer questions about their safety practices. It should also be perfectly reasonable to simply decline to answer those questions.

Of course the point is, they aren't doing these or any or things with the money. It's been accumulating steadily for nearly ten years, and is really building up quickly now. I don't think any of us "grumpy" stockholders would be complaining if Apple was doing something worthwhile with it. Dividends, BTW, are a message from a company to stockholders that they don't have to sell to realize a benefit from owning shares. They are good for improving the long term stability of the stock.
I would love for apple to use 10 billion to innovate fantastically, enter new markets, go green, and more. I don't think it's going to happen- the purpose of 10 billion in the bank for apple is having 10 billion in the bank. Apple's expertise is in taking big risks (at least large for a compnay of their size), a good number of which pay off very, very well. But people- investors, CEOs, are risk adverse, and a huge pile of cash to operate on, so big they can operate and continue to invest in risky and exciting products, mitigates their risks. For apple, a pile of money might actually be worth more than investing that money at a high rate of return.

I'd rather see Blu Ray win this. It's clearly the better product on paper.
However, as history shows us, this doesn't mean it will win :(
Apple supporting both? I think it's a good option to give the customers - it's us who'll decide... But a hybrid drive will be the best bet.

Why did Apple do away with live feeds of the event? That seems like a good idea. What are they trying to avoid?
That little thing called bandwidth. You know how many people will be hitting that streaming video stream if it were live? With it being tape delayed, Apple can somewhat spread out the number of people who will be watching it.
Heck I have a hard enough time viewing the keynote hours after it was released, never mind trying to do it live.

It still is pretty poor with compatibility when it comes to RAW. For example, it still can't read white balance from the meta data on RAW files off Canon cameras. Great!
Aperture's development also is going slow. Apple pulling out the software?

I'm surprised at how responsive Apple has been with updates to Aperture. When the product first came out, there was huge scrutiny of the RAW conversion quality and long list of other critical image processing things (like RGB value reporting) - within a very short time, they updated it and solved the vast majority of those issues. The other big knock was file handling - now they've fixed that. The file handling in particular had to be a pretty significant rework of the code. Furthermore, they've updated the app to universal. I'd say that's a pretty blazing pace of development.

I don't see how they would go back to angles after touting the more curved and comfortable 3G / 3GS back. There was a big focus on how much more comfortable the new iPhone was to hold compared to the first.
The iPod touch is a different beast. The second generation has a nicer feel around the screen, but the smooth rounded back makes it harder to hold. Fortunately there are some really good cases out there to rectify the situation.

Wow. I suggest finding a phonebook and looking up your nearest therapist because you have major issues. House rapist? You are mental? You have gone bananas so I suppose that avatar suits you. I have no problem with people being good neighbours by not building an eye sore but ultimately those damn conservationists can stick their concerns where the sun does not shine because it is not their property and they would not have paid a single red cent to make that old house livable and earthquake safe. Their opinions aren't what bothers me. People are free to have whatever opinion they like. But when they constantly come into threads with no intention of discussing the topic at hand, only to remind us of what their opinion is for favorite brand, that is troublesome, and behavior that does NOT need defending.
